The problem
Indonesia’s millions of small and mid-sized firms ran their operations on a patchwork: spreadsheets for payroll, a desktop ledger for the books, chat apps for customers and paper for contracts. Every month-end meant re-typing the same data into different tools, with errors compounding and no owner able to see the whole business at once.
How it works
Mekari began in 2015 as an HR product under Suwandi Soh and took its current shape in April 2019, when four local SaaS brands — Sleekr, Talenta, Jurnal and Klikpajak — merged into a single ecosystem. It then bought its way into adjacent jobs: CRM provider Qontak in 2021 (founder Brendan Rakphongphairoj joining management) and Jojonomic’s Officeless Operating System in 2024. Today one subscription covers Talenta (HR and payroll), Jurnal (accounting), Klikpajak (tax), Qontak (CRM), Sign, Flex, Expense, Pay, Capital and Officeless, all sharing one data layer so a lead can become an invoice and a signed contract without leaving the platform.
Pain points
Manual payroll and payroll-tax math, invoices lost in chat threads, contracts printed for wet signatures, tax filings assembled from scattered records, and MSMEs with no formal books and therefore no access to credit.
Business model
Per-module, per-seat SaaS subscriptions form the core, layered with embedded financial services — employee benefits and earned-wage access via Flex, business financing via Capital — delivered with licensed lending partners.
Challenges
Average revenue per micro-SME stays small, so growth depends on upselling more modules and climbing into the enterprise segment; each module faces its own specialists and global suites; and the fintech push must convert bookkeeping data into safe underwriting rather than bad loans.
Funding
