The problem
Large African employers stitch HR together from disconnected systems: a core-HR package here, payroll run in-house or on a second tool there, with global suites like Oracle and SAP too complex — often requiring certification — and too costly for local teams.
How it works
SeamlessHR sells one enterprise-grade cloud suite covering the employee lifecycle: recruitment, core HR records, performance and competency management, leave, analytics and payroll. Founded in 2018 after a pivot from the 2013 jobs aggregator Insidify.com, it now layers AI-driven workforce analytics and embedded finance — payroll financing and employment-status-backed credit — on top of the HR data it already holds.
Pain points
Siloed HR and payroll data, manual payroll errors and delays, and workers who can’t convert a steady salary into credit for rent, school or transport.
Business model
Per-employee B2B SaaS subscriptions sold to medium and large enterprises — including banks, insurers, manufacturers and schools — with embedded finance products opening a second revenue line on payroll flows.
Challenges
African enterprise software budgets are small and nascent, so growth per unit of effort lags Western markets; hiring skilled talent is hard; Oracle and SAP defend the top end while Workpay and Bento contest the mid-market; and lending against salaries imports credit risk.
